This plugin is designed to test the speed of each mirror followed by sorting to use YUM. It establishes a connection with each of the mirror, time of connectionand then sorts on fast to slow.
If you are using the default configuration, and if you are not behind a proxyserver, fastestmirror strongly recommended (in CentOS 5.3 it is selected by default).
To use this plugin, you must enable the use of plugins in/etc/yum.conf file, see.Yum plugins for details. Starting with CentOS 5, plug-ins are enabled by default.
You can install plugin, fastestmirror using the following command:
1 |
yum install yum-plugin-fastestmirror |
Or by using the following command on CentOS 5:
1 |
yum install yum-fastestmirror |
After installing fastestmirror, make sure it is turned on. Edit the file/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/fastestmirror.conf and make sure it contains the following lines:
1 2 3 4 5 6 |
[main] verbose = 0 socket_timeout = 3 enabled = 1 hostfilepath = /var/cache/yum/timedhosts.txt maxhostfileage = 1 |
To exclude a particular mirror, the TLD (top level domain), or something in between, add the line ‘ exclude = ‘ in/etc/yum/pluginconf.d/fastestmirror.conf:
1 2 3 |
[main] ... exclude=.gov, facebook, myspace, junk-mirror.com |
