The default Port 22 for SSH connection to the Linux Server, so there will be many people taking advantage of this to attack the VPS’s root account.
To increase the security for VPS, you should change the port SSH login on VPS instead of using the default port 22.
These steps change the port SSH login
-Login into VPS using root access
-Edit the sshd_config file
nano/etc/ssh/sshd_config
-Search #Port line 22, unmark the # at the start and replaced by the port you want to use, for example 2222 (Port is used on Windows but not on Linux)
Port 2222
Note the port need to be free and without service would use to avoid conflict. See also list of TCP and UDP port.
-Save the file and restart the sshd
/etc/init.d/sshd restart
-If using the firewall then you remember to enable port to be able to connect to before you logout.
That is okay, please login to SSH using port’s new look.
